So what do you make of it?

What do I make of what?

Surely you know what I’m thinking.

Yes. I do.

So then, what do you make of it?

I think that you’re healing, and you’re finally starting to treat yourself with the dignity and respect you should have been doing for years. The love that I’ve been trying to treat you with, for years.

Thank you for that, old friend.

Oh wow, you really /are/ pretentious tonight.

As always. Going to say you’re not my friend, just my ally?

Ha. As if. Nice reference though.

Thanks, I made it myself.

You should probably credit Makyo in the comments or something, the, the end of the essay.

Are you affected by my tiredness?

I mean, I live in your brain so like. Presumably yeah.

So how would you describe what a daemon is?

That voice in the back of your head that says “It’s answer C, pick C.” I’ve always liked that description. I think that everybody can relate to it. Everybody can relate to that little voice of consciousness, that spark of Dust, if you will.

Wow, now who’s the pretentious one?

Still you

So for those not familiar with daemons, how would you do the introduction?

There is a voice in the back of your head that is there for you always, that whispers you the right answer (or perhaps the wrong one, it does depend on you after all) on tests. The voice that, when you weigh your life decisions over, is providing the counter and the argument. That voice that is with you when you’re in the middle of nowhere, with no people around for miles, and you feel yourself. That’s your daemon. And you can choose to talk to them, you can choose to develop that relationship into a conversation. And you can choose, as some do, to project them. Usually, as an animal. A constant companion, intangible, but who knows you better than your closest lover. Your best friend, your worst enemy, You. Fundamentally, your daemon is You.

Wow. That’s pretty beautiful for 11:49 PM PST at night.

Thanks, I made it myself :P

So I guess this is where you link The Daemon Page?

I guess this is where I link The Daemon Page.

Again, pretentious

Do you remember how I found that site?

I think you read The Golden Compass? So uh, random Google searching.

Random Google Searching that changed my life.

Yeah, a lot of trans women would say that too.

And trans men. And nonbinary folk.

Yup.

So do you think I would have ever met you if I hadn’t read that page?

If you hadn’t Google-Stumbled onto it?

Yup.

I’d like to think so. I mean, I’ve always met you.

I’d like to think so too. ❤

That a good place to stop for tonight, you think?

I do.

Me too.
